Comparing an English Cream Goldendoodle, a Cavapoo, and an English Cream Golden Retriever comes down to four things: size, coat and shedding, temperament, and budget. In short, the Goldendoodle is our most size-flexible breed — Micro through Standard — with a calm, hike-or-couch temperament and a low-shedding coat, priced at $3,000–$3,500. Micro English Cream Goldendoodle
The Micro Goldendoodle is the most petite of all golden doodles. They are amazing lap dogs and still sturdy enough to go on hikes and be raised with children. They are hypoallergenic, non-shedding, intelligent, gentle, loving, happy and beyond adorable! Despite their small size they love fetch, obedience training, excel in emotional support, and are not "high-strung." The English Retriever gives them a more solid bone structure and healthier genetics. It is easy to fall in love with this perfect "carry around" golden doodle!
Petite Mini English Cream Goldendoodle
Our F2 English Cream Goldendoodle will have one parent that is a golden doodle and the other parent is a mini/toy poodle. This creates one of the most desired dogs as they are more hypo-allergenic, non-shedding, and have all the amazing characteristics of a golden doodle in a smaller package. Minis are gentle, loving, intelligent, and small enough to travel easy. They love to retrieve, play in water, go for walks and sleep with you. Minis and Petite-minis are perfect for those who love the golden doodle but just don't want too much dog.
Mini English Cream Goldendoodle
Our F2 English Cream Goldendoodle will have one parent that is a golden doodle and the other parent is a mini/toy poodle. Standard English Cream Goldendoodle
Our Standard & Mini F1 English Cream Goldendoodles are the best combination of the English Retriever and poodle. Highly intelligent, this breed is easily trained as a companion, emotional support, therapy and service dog. When you have 50% English Retriever & 50% Poodle you get the best parts of each breed. This is referred to as vigor hybrid. The health and genetics of the Goldendoodle will be stronger than each breed independent of one another. This is an excellent choice for those who love the English retriever's gentle, loyal disposition but need an allergy friendly dog.
English Cream Golden Retriever
Our English Cream Golden Retrievers are imported from champion pedigree lines. They are kind and gentle, sweet as sugar, and always up for a game of fetch. We specifically choose the English Cream over the American Retriever for their exceptional health advantages. On average, English Creams live two years longer and carry a significantly lower cancer risk. Furthermore, their sturdy, blocky conformation drastically reduces the likelihood of hip dysplasia and joint issues. Beyond their impressive health and stunning thick body structure, English Retrievers are renowned for their calm, loyal temperament—making them incredible family dogs, therapy dogs, and lifelong companions.
Cavapoo
A delightful cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Miniature or Toy Poodle. The Cavapoo combines the gentle, affectionate nature of the Cavalier with the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. Typically ranging from 8–20 lbs fully grown, they are the perfect size for any home. Known for their incredibly sweet, easygoing temperaments and adorable teddy-bear faces, Cavapoos make exceptional family companions and apartment-friendly pets.
Comparing the Three Breeds
Size
Our English Cream Goldendoodles come in four sizes, so there is a version of the breed for nearly every household: Micro is the most petite of all our doodles, Petite Mini runs roughly 14–20 lbs, Mini lands around 21–40 lbs, and Standard tops out at 41+ lbs and beyond. The Cavapoo is smaller and far more consistent from litter to litter, typically settling in the 8–20 lb range once fully grown regardless of generation — small enough for apartment living, but sturdy enough to keep up with an active family. The English Cream Golden Retriever is by far the largest of the three: females typically mature to 55–65 lbs and males to 65–75+ lbs, so plan for a sturdy adult dog that needs real room to stretch out.
Coat & Shedding
Both the Goldendoodle and the Cavapoo carry Poodle heritage, which means hair that grows more like human hair than fur that sheds out. Our English Cream Goldendoodles feature soft, low-shedding coats in the sought-after pale cream to almost-white English coloring, and an F1B or F1BB generation (more Poodle in the mix) produces an even curlier, more consistently allergy-friendly coat. Cavapoo coats range from wavy to curly and are likewise considered low-shedding and allergy-friendly. No dog is 100% hypoallergenic — allergies are often triggered by dander and saliva, not just hair — so families with severe allergies should still spend time with the breed before bringing a puppy home. The English Cream Golden Retriever is a purebred dog, not a Poodle cross, so its coat and shedding pattern is different from the other two breeds; our Retriever page describes it as a gorgeous, flowing coat, and we're happy to talk through what to expect day to day if shedding is a deciding factor for your family.
Temperament
All three breeds are known for being gentle, people-oriented dogs, but each carries its own personality. The English Cream Goldendoodle has what we call an "old soul" temperament — calm, observant, and eager to please rather than simply high-energy, and just as happy hiking on Saturday as it is curled up on the couch on Sunday. The Cavapoo is the ultimate lap dog of the three: deeply affectionate, a little more "velcro," and incredibly gentle, which makes it a natural fit for anyone who wants a devoted snuggle companion first and a hiking partner second. The English Cream Golden Retriever is unwaveringly loyal, friendly, and reliable — the classic family dog — and our English lines carry a calmer, more laid-back energy than high-energy American Golden Retriever lines, without losing that famous Golden devotion to their people.
Exercise Needs
Because of its size range, the Goldendoodle's exercise needs stretch the furthest: a Micro or Petite Mini is content with shorter walks and indoor play, while a Mini or Standard genuinely enjoys being a walking or hiking companion and thrives in an active household. The Cavapoo needs the least daily exercise of the three — regular walks and play sessions are plenty — which is exactly why it suits apartment living, seniors, and families who want a companion rather than a fetch partner. The English Cream Golden Retriever, as the largest and most classically active of the three breeds, does best in an active household with room to romp; families with young children who want a devoted hiking, playtime, and everyday companion tend to be the happiest match.

Pricing is one of the clearest differences between our three breeds. English Cream Goldendoodles are currently priced at $3,000–$3,500. Cavapoos are priced higher, at $4,000–$4,500. Across all three breeds, a $250 deposit sent via Venmo reserves your place on the waitlist and is credited toward your puppy's purchase price — it's non-refundable but always transferable to a different puppy or future litter. If you want the most flexibility in size — from a lap-sized Micro up to a sturdy Standard — while keeping a calm, low-shedding companion that can hike or curl up with equal enthusiasm, the English Cream Goldendoodle is likely your best fit.
