The Complete English Cream Golden Retriever Guide
Size & Coat
English Golden Retrievers are bred to stricter European kennel club standards than their American counterparts, which gives them a distinctly blockier head, a broader chest, a more compact and robust build, and a beautiful pale cream to almost-white coat. It's a look that's become highly sought after, and it's the reason we specialize exclusively in these English lines at Canterbury Canines.
Temperament
Golden Retrievers are legendary for their unparalleled loyalty and gentle disposition, and the English Cream lines in particular are famous for being calmer and more laid-back than high-energy American lines. We describe our English Cream puppies as having an "old soul" — observant, gentle, and eager to please from a very young age. Every puppy is raised directly in our home in Eagle Mountain, Utah, alongside our own family, with daily socialization and early neurological stimulation from birth.
Health Testing
Our Retriever parent dogs are fully health-tested and conformationally sound, with Embark DNA testing that screens for over 250 genetic health conditions and OFA evaluations on file. Puppies come with a 1-Year Hip Guarantee against genetic moderate or severe hip dysplasia and retinal eye disease, provided they stay on Exclusive Signature food through their first 12 months.
Is an English Cream Retriever Right for Your Family?
Golden Retrievers are unwaveringly loyal, friendly, and reliable — widely considered the classic family dog. Our English Cream lines carry that same devoted temperament with an even calmer, more laid-back energy, which makes them a great match for active households and families with young children who want a devoted companion for hikes, playtime, and everything in between. As a larger breed, females typically settle in the 55–65 lb range and males in the 65–75+ lb range once fully grown, so plan for a sturdy adult dog with plenty of room to romp.
